Welcome to our first CLWD-Blog, happy you're here!

In this blogpost, we will deep dive into Cloud Journeys! At CLWD we believe your cloud-approach might face challenges, and although all paths lead to Rome, we have standardized the solution to the different challenges into five Cloud Journeys.

  1. Cloud Foundation
  2. Compliancy
  3. FinOps
  4. Migration
  5. Modernization

Cloud Foundation

Just like every building or apartment, you need a solid foundation before you can start building. Skipping that step would lead to crucial building errors later on. The same principles apply in the Cloud.

Start Right > Keep Right > Make Right is a principle that's in our DNA. Starting right makes sure that, at the start of your cloud journey, you lay a solid foundation, ready to scale, secure, well-architected and compliant. It will be very frictionless to now build your cloud environment and maintain it. Keeping that setup, maintaining it and adapting it to the ever changing needs, is something that can be picked up in our Cloud Managed Services ( Next blog maybe? ). Make right however, is a hard thing to do. Imagine building a house and adding a foundation just before you move in. It's not easy, if not impossible. The same applies for the cloud. Making it right, in your cloud environment, is like changing the rules of the game while it's being played. Nobody really likes that.

Setting the rules of the game in terms of Network, Policies, Identity and Governance, Metrics and Alerts, but also a standardized approach for backups, patching, tagging or Defender makes all the difference!

Bottom line: Start right - build a solid, secure and compliant cloud foundation, together with CLWD!

Compliancy

But, according to the above, we should always start building from the ground up? That's not always feasible. Maybe you want to check if your foundations are still solid, maybe you want to check if you predecessor built it right or maybe you just want to find out if your current foundation still adheres to the new safety standards. The Compliancy Journey does just that!

Executing checks, about security, compliancy, resiliency and architecture, compiling a list of priorities so we can work on them together.

FinOps

The current cloud models are mostly Pay-As-You-Go - meaning, you pay for what you use. This might lead to unexpected costs, unallocated costs or unrecognized costs. To keep coming back to building a house, imagine random workers show up every day, working some hours, sending you an invoice at the end of the month, one you are not capable of protesting, because you are unaware of what they were doing, for how long, with what type of materials.
The FinOps Journey will guide you to understand and manage your cloud spending, so those workers know when to come and what to do, and you know how much they will invoice. We will explain you all the cost meters in the cloud, so you know what types of costs may occur. Together with our tooling of choice, Turbo360, we will gain insights, spot optimization and guide you to a more sustainable cloud spending, during, but also after the Journey!

Cloud migration

Foundation? Done! Compliancy? Check! This is your captain speaking, we are ready for take-off! Once all the basics are in place, we can start with the first Cloud Migration. CLWD will help you, with all the steps needed for the migration to be a succes! Guiding is in our DNA, upskilling your teams is benefitial for everyone!

Modernization

We all have been there, especially if your born before 1994, like me! A virtual machine! Those things just work, but their total cost of ownership is higher than you might expect. You need to: backup, patch, secure, monitor, scale and replicate, and all that 24/7! In this day and age, we have diffent solutions available to us. App Service Plans, Azure Container Environments, AKS, Logic Apps, Function Apps, PowerApps, I have even seen VM's being replaced by the Automation account! Modernization is a Journey for people having and maintaining certain workload in Virtual Machines, that can be ported or rewritten in a more modern version of a VM.
